In this special edition of TDA Talks, “How AI Will Shape Designers, Not Replace Them,” Andrew Smith, Founder and Head of Partnerships at TDA, was joined by Matthew Ström-Awn. Matthew, previously a Design Leader at Stripe, is now embarking on an exciting new role as Head of Design at Copilot Money.

During the talk, Andy and Matthew discussed the evolving role of designers in AI development and implementation. They emphasized the importance of designers focusing on enabling and improving AI, rather than just its potential applications.

The conversation also touched on the prevalence and future of chat as a primary mode of human-computer interaction, along with the potential risks and benefits of advanced AI-driven internal dialogue. Matthew highlighted the need for designers to leverage AI to solve user problems and recommended the People + AI Guidebook by Google as a valuable resource for best practices.

Lastly, they underscored the importance of design in creating sustainable, equitable, and ethical technology, particularly in the realm of AI.
